Juvenile Delinquency Attorneys
The New Hampshire juvenile delinquency laws are spelled out in RSA 169-B. Any offense (other than motor vehicle charges) committed by a juvenile under the age of 17 will be charged in juvenile court unless the case is very serious and the juvenile is certified as an adult. All offenses committed by a person 17 years old or older are prosecuted in adult court.
If a juvenile is found to have committed a misdemeanor or felony, they can be subject to various consequences including being placed on juvenile probation, being required to complete counseling, community service, or being placed in group home or juvenile detention facility.
Delinquency proceedings are confidential and it is a crime to disclose what happens in one of these hearings to another person. A delinquency finding is not a “crime” under New Hampshire criminal law.
