RSA 643:1 defines arson under NH Criminal Law. Generally speaking, arson is defined as knowingly setting a fire or causing an explosion that damages the property of another person. If the fire or explosion caused injury it could also be charged as an assault or even murder depending on the circumstances.

Arson can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony depending on whether there are certain aggravating circumstance, such as:  (1) the value of the damaged property; (2) whether the arson was committed to defraud an insurance company; and (3) whether the property damaged was an occupied structure.
