Family Law

Cohen & Winters regularly appear in Family Division courts across the state helping with divorce, post-divorce, and parenting disputes.

Meet Our Team

The entire focus of the Cohen & Winters team is helping good people going through bad situations, often for the first and only time in their lives. Jonathan and Andrew both started practicing as public defenders in 1999, where they each defended hundreds of criminal cases for people who couldn't afford a lawyer. This community oriented work creates a bond. Later, in 2009 they partnered up, providing dedicated services to their community and throughout the state.

Together, Jon and Andrew defended one of the most notorious murder cases in the history of New Hampshire.

Since joining forces, Jon and Andrew have expanded their practice to other areas where they can help people in need. This includes fighting to see that victims of car accidents and other forms of negligence get fair compensation. They also regularly assist people who have the misfortune of going through a divorce or custody battle.

Cohen & Winters has assembled a crackerjack team of attorneys and professionals devoted to their mission of high quality legal work for real people. This includes Attorney Hannah Newell who brings a diverse perspective, having worked for law firms in England and Arkansas prior to settling in New Hampshire.

"We represent individuals, not businesses," says Andrew. "That was an intentional choice. While we have had the opportunity to practice corporate law, making big money billing hours for faceless entities, that wasn't satisfying to either of us. There's no connection with the client that way, nothing to motivate you to push yourself the hardest."

"Working as a team is what we are all about", Jon says. "We subscribe to the motto that 'the whole is greater than the sum of our parts.' Nobody here has an ego. We just want to get the job done. It's that philosophy that sets us apart."

"My 8-year-old got hit by a truck with his bicycle on the side of the road. I needed legal advice on how to deal with the situation. Jon negotiated and got us a substantial amount of money."
